You deserve to thrive.
A brave woman knows she has strength enough for the journey.
A wise woman knows it is the journey that will make her strong.
Hello fellow traveler! I’m Dr. Jade Wu, a clinical psychologist specializing in women’s mental health, especially for those experiencing changes and challenges around fertility, motherhood, and other major life transitions. I understand that navigating these while balancing multiple roles can be overwhelming—I’m going through it too!—and I’m here to support and empower you through it all.
I serve women in most US states and accept BCBS and Aetna in several states. All sessions are Telehealth appointments to make therapy as convenient as possible for you.
Women are strong, but we need help during times of challenge and change
I offer evidence-based psychological treatment and supportive psychotherapy for conditions including:
Pregnancy and postpartum depression and anxiety
Infertility, loss, and birth-related trauma
Coping with early parenthood challenges
(Peri)menopause-related sleep and mood changes
Mid-life parenting/relationship stress and role changes
Sleep problems - difficulty falling/staying asleep, daytime fatigue
Be effective at fixing what you can, and wise about the rest.
At Thrive, our philosophy and approach acknowledge the nuances of womanhood and the need for flexible approaches to psychotherapy. This means that we address your urgent, practical concerns (“How do I get more sleep? How can I communicate this difficult issue with my partner?) with practical, evidence-based tools. We address more existential and emotional challenges (“What if I can’t have biological children? Why am I not the kind of mother I envisioned myself to be?) with compassionate guidance towards clarity and healing. That’s why we combine psychotherapy modalities including:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)-informed methods
Trauma-informed psychotherapy
Supportive psychotherapy

Some of you may already know me as a widely recognized behavioral sleep medicine specialist. I’m very proud of my leadership in this area, and it informs all the work I do. But the foundation of my clinical psychology training has always been in evidence-based treatments for mood and anxiety disorders. During my residency and fellowship, I focused specifically on mood and anxiety in the context of reproductive psychology and perinatal mental health. In the years since, I have continued to be passionate about working with women at crucial points of their fertility journey, those struggling with pregnancy or postparrtum depression/anxiety, and those experiencing menopause- and mid-life related stressors.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C), as well as Board certification in behavioral sleep medicine (DBSM).
I completed my undergraduate studies with summa cum laude honors at Cornell University, then my PhD at Boston University. My medical psychology residency and postdoctoral fellowship were completed at Duke University School of Medicine.
Perhaps most importantly, I’m actively enrolled in the academy of parenthood… That is, I’ve had two children and gone through my own perinatal mental health challenges. The work I continue to do on my own growth informs the empathy and guidance I offer to my clients.

I accept BCBS and Aetna in New York and North Carolina (and potentially in other states, depending on the local BCBS or Aetna plan you have).
With other insurance companies, I am an out-of-network provider. To help make therapy affordable and easy to navigate, I partner with Mentaya to make sure you get your out-of-network benefits, which usually cover 40-80% of the cost of therapy after meeting your deductible.
To check your insurance eligibility and get an estimate of your out-of-pocket costs for working with me, reach out and I will get back to you with a good faith estimate.
For clients paying out of pocket, my fee is $250 for the initial assessment session and $215 per 45-minute follow up session.

A therapeutic relationship begins with curiosity. I will start by asking you questions about what you’re struggling with, as well as other important things about your life—Whom are your closest people? How do you spend your days? What other medical or psychological conditions have you had? What other strategies have you tried? Etc.
Then, together, we create a treatment plan that addresses your symptoms and concerns and meet regularly (usually weekly or every-other-weekly in the initial phase) to work towards your goals. Successful therapy is adaptable, too—we will regularly check in about how you’re doing to reassess whether we need to tweak our approach.
The clients who are most successful are those who approach therapy with openness and participate actively.
